One of these songs came up one day and I hated how it made me grin like mad because it reminded me so much about liking somebody. Like, alright, these things are easy to shrug, shake or brush off and forget about, but one day, lo and behold, you haven’t actually rubbed it off clean.
It amuses me how long I can actually go on liking people probably never really meant but I can’t quite bring myself to feel much bothered about either.
That it’s just nice entertaining the thought once in a while when I don’t have much to do. Haha. I guess this just goes out to say, Hey, I still think of you fondly.
Some people just kill me.

First of the year, and in quite a while now. It always takes me a while to come up with a solid list of favorites that work together. Too long, actually, that each time one comes out, it always feels like giving birth - a labor of love. Imagine all the awful music people at work had to also listen to when I’ve been crisscrossing online radios and my old discographies for good couple of months, sifting for these :))
Something I imagine you’d want to fix breakfast in your knickers with tomorrow.
I was having a hard time coming up with a shortlist because I was going for a particular vibe. I didn’t want it too sound like my existing compilations - it very easily turns too cutesy and too sexy with a few wrong tracks.
Something cheery to make you feel loved and just — brimming. And somewhere along the lines of comfortable. Enough to make you want to dance in your knickers and enough to pull you back into bed, whichever floats your boat.

Since a lot of you loved that Bowie song so much I figured I’d share this private mix. This by far is the longest I’ve taken to trim down a short list and I hadn’t done such a great job at it, what with 34 tracks. Most songs were very close to home. Dropping one meant heartbreak.
Memories of night drives are one of the most prominent things I remember when I look back at all four years of college. I remember shouting at the back of a friend’s pickup truck under the starriest sky I’ve seen with all the old friends I missed. I remember driving to the shore to break bottles over rocks with a very somber cousin. I remember being pulled over in Makati one stupid night. I remember a designated driver shouting at graveyard shift construction workers for directions and laughing my butt off. I remember it raining and my sister and I speeding to a Stars song because it felt like it needed to be done. Ex-lovers die.
I remember take out, rolled down windows, my left hand warm. Etc, etc. This is my dearest baby. Take a few people you love and drive around on what’s left of your holiday break, why don’t you.

As suggested by a friend, I’ve copied all my tapes to Dropbox. I don’t own any of the tracks in them so, might be, they’ll be putting them down just as Mediafire has, any moment now. Of course I’m one step ahead of them, working on Rapidshare copies now.
Dropbox works pretty fine at the moment so I’ve fixed all of the download links and clickthroughs HERE.
Below’s a more compact version of the links, arranged chronologically.
Hi, Cy! I think the particular number you said you wanted earlier’s at 7.
I Don’t Make Breakfast
I remember being 16 and chopping most of my hair off just so I could wear a cloche I bought like flappers used to fashion in the 1920’s (this Wikipedia definition of them is spot on!). This was also that time in my life when I watched a lot of french movies and tried learning French so I could play french songs.
I always admired the effortless elegance of French women. They’re always portrayed clever, alluring, unfazed, and eternally bored but the amount of cigarette butts within arm’s reach of them and the eerie, faint tremors in their hands almost always give them away. Cynical romantics.
Well. This is and ode to them.
It took quite a while for me to come up with a final track list because I had to pull out a lot of songs that had a little much feeling. Nothing too happy, nothing too sad. We don’t want to ruin that reputation.

Here’s the new download link to those who weren’t able to download it before it got blocked last night. If you’re from the future and if for some reason the following link stops working again, just hit me up. I always keep a compressed copy in case they expire.
Every year and a half, I clean up my music drive to make room for the appreciation of new songs but there’s a select few songs and artists that somehow make their way back by the end of every year.
I’ve grown tired of having to download them back one by one each year so I cramped them into a handy zipped file to save me time in the future. This is a very self indulgent compilation but I’d thought I’d slap a cover on it and post it on here anyway.
Disclaimer, real quick: This is a self indulgent compilation so I went ahead and put in 30+ songs. You’ll find a lot of them - for lack of better word - a little gasgas for your taste but I figure only people old enough to have fallen in love or or or had their periods (?) in the late 90’s and early 2000’s can appreciate how totally ridiculous these songs could make people.

I really wish I put in some Duncan Sheik and The Cardigans and Weezer and 311 and The Cure and horrehshet what possessed me to forget Paul Mccrane’s Is It Okay If I Call You Mine? D:
An Ignorance of Three Parts: the first brings fancy’s first tingle. Like the split second silence of disbelief before an exhilaration sweeps across the crowd at the tell-tale first few notes of a song that unmistakably, could not be another of the front act’s.
The second, a wandering - through thoughts and daft possibilities with the healthy consciousness that everything just looks without flaw from far enough away. You keep safe distance - certain knowledge can dampen the joy - and make room for scripts that will never be acted out or read or heard. It’s got you unawares all the same.
The third, the sudden anticlimax of realizing you’ll never find out. Bittersweet.
Some call it a happy crush, I think of it as the odd joy in not knowing.

To charlesbee, and countless many who praise me for my lack of heart and think I’m flattered by it. I’m just not one of you lucky many to have become attached truly. I have feelings but they’re reasonably transient and volatile, in fact a solid quarter of these songs come from a mix tape from High School and I don’t remember exactly what made me make it. Or do I? HAHA.
When I was a kid I thought jumping off waterfalls was a cool thing. This just somehow brings that back.

Dear Old Love (the mixtape), is a mix inspired by this book I read. I made this mix four years ago (of course I didn’t call it Dear Old Love then) but I tweaked it up a bit, made a little coverart and tracklist and added some new songs. So I think it’s a slightly less depressing version of my old mix now.
Listen, these are some of my sappiest songs so I hope you enjoy. Oh and sorry in advance if this stirs up some uh… inappropriate feelings of some of yous. I guess that’s exactly what I had in mind when making this. HAHA
