Tzaddi Esguerra 2012. Acrylic and oil on canvas, 3x3 ft
I started this painting with the intention of making a purely abstract piece with just three colors or so because of the time constraint. That, or I just really had nothing in mind even on the first brush stroke.
Uninvited colors made their way into the canvas — I kept making mistakes because of my little knowledge on the drying time of the different paints I had to make do with so new colors kept emerging every time I accidentally blend colors together.
But I think they were happy accidents. I found playful lines and I began to make out a figure from the shameless color dump that it made me think of Cirque du Soleil and this catchy Moony song.
This could all be just a shady way of justifying it but I guess I wanted to capture the feeling of being up in the air, tossing to and from trapezes with an inconceivable amount of confidence. Like being so infatuated with something (or someone. hihi) but consciously letting yourself get carried away that you’re enmeshed in your own mess.
HA!
Naples Yellow
You know there’s something wrong with you when you sit for hours just talking about colors, wide-eyed in the wee hours of the day. Some side stories about extremely generous (not to mention, enigmatic) artist ex-boyfriends, dinner and OJ, and we have ourselves a night!

Okay, one more with bloodshot eyes, pre-exhibit stress, and a linseed oil high, now.

I do couple illustrations now too. This is a particularly playful one because I wanted it to suit the people in the illustration. Cute kids. HAHA. Know people who want one done?
